Description

By Alexandra Churchill

Discover the Battle of the Somme through 141 of the soldiers who lost their lives.

The Battle of the Somme was one of the costliest campaigns of the First World War, with tens of thousands of casualties on both sides, drawn from all corners of the world.

To describe each day of the battle, 141 fallen casualties have been chosen and through their eyes the full scope of the horror of the Somme emerges. The poignancy of their personal tragedies reminds us of the great sacrifices made by ordinary men in this war to end all wars.

Sobering and thought provoking.

A very well written, snap shot of the human cost of the battle of the Somme. The individuals represented within it's pages, share a tragic destiny, repeated so often during this and other conflicts.
The discomfort endured, the sense of duty and the bravery of these people leaps from every page.
My purchase was extremely good value and arrived promptly.
I'm delighted with my purchase.
