Description

The MENG-Model ES-011 is an assembly model kit at 1/35 of the German heavy tank Sd.Kfz.182 Tiger II, more commonly known as King Tiger. This edition is inspired by the fighting of Operation Goodwood in Normandy in 1944, and reproduces a vehicle equipped with the so-called Porsche turret.

The Tiger II was one of the German heavy armoured vehicles deployed during the final period of World War II. Its imposing silhouette, angled armour plating, and 8.8 cm gun make it a major subject for enthusiasts of German military vehicles and dioramas devoted to the Battle of Normandy.

This MENG reference offers a highly detailed reproduction including interior, a mobile suspension, and articulated tracks using metal axles. The kit also includes a metal gun barrel, photo-etched parts, and 3D-printed components intended in particular for damaged side protections. The Zimmerit textures are provided in the form of dedicated decals.

3D-printed crew figures accompany the set. Hatches can be installed open or closed, while the main gun is able to be aimed in elevation. Two decorations for the schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503 are included to depict this King Tiger in the context of Operation Goodwood.

Assembly requires the usual products for static model making: plastic glue, cutting and deburring tools, paints, brushes or an airbrush. Primer helps prepare the different materials before painting, especially the plastic, metal, photo-etched, and 3D-printed parts. Weathering, dust effects, and treatment of damaged areas then help enhance the vehicle’s operational character.

At the 1/35 scale, each dimension of the real vehicle is reduced by a factor of 35. This scale is particularly suited to staging with figures, terrain elements, and other military vehicles from the same period.
