Description

A Cup of Sunshine, Dorset Tea

During World War II, tea was considered a vital strategic resource by the British Government, deemed almost as important as ammunition for maintaining troop morale. The government purchased massive quantities of black tea from Ceylon, Assam and Africa to ensure supply, even buying the entire worlds available supply in 1942.

This obsession extended to the battlefield and in 1945 British tanks were equipped with a built in electric "boiling vessel" (BV) to allow crews to make a brew without leaving the safety of their vehicle. This standard feature was developed after WW2, when crews risked being attacked while making tea outside in "Benghazi burners).
