By Simon Dunstan
Scorpion FV101 combat vehicle reconnaissance (tracked) in British service 1972-2020.
The CVR(T)family of vehicles has been highly successful since its introduction by the British Army in 1972. It has seen extensive combat from the Falklands War to Afghanistan.
The combat history of CVRT is one of the most powerful aspects of the Haynes CVRT Scorpion Manual and includes accounts of its first operational deployment during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974; the Falklands War in 1982; the Gulf War in 1991; Somalia in 1993 and the Fourth Anglo-Afghan War, including the testimony of the most highly decorated soldier in the British Army, Mick Flynn, who fought in CVRT from the Falklands to Afghanistan.

With over 50 years in service with the British and many other armies, the CVR(T) series deserves a good book to describe it and who better than Simon Dunstan to write it.
He takes its story from the 1960s with the requirement for a reconnaissance vehicle and the different designs put forward. When it was realised that several vehicles would be needed, this became a series including two tanks, a command vehicle, an ambulance, a troop carrier, an antitank missile launcher and a recovery vehicle.
Later other vehicles were added for new uses, a lengthened version was developed with several types produced. The original vehicles were improved with new engines, sights and radios and better protected variants introduced to face new threats.
Some or all have seen service in the Falklands, two Gulf Wars, Bosnia and Afghanistan as well as on many peacetime exercises. Alongside use by the army, they served with the RAF Regiment for airfield defence. All these aspects are covered with detailed yet readable text and a good selection of photos, extracts from the Handbooks and drawings.
If you used one of these vehicles in peace or war, you will find this book brings back memories.
If your interest is mainly in the technical side or just the vehicles themselves you will find a lot here.
