Recreate the German Kubelwagen Type 82 with a Tamiya 1/35 scale model kit.
The Pkw. K1 "Kubelwagen" Type 82 used a light but sturdy, monocoque construction with foldable canvas top. The rear mounted, air-cooled 4 cylinder engine had a displacement of 985cc and output of 23.5hp at 3,000rpm, propelling the car up to 80km/h. The four wheels were supported by a torsion bar suspension system.
The Kubelwagen was initially deployed to the Reconnaissance battalions. With its reliable engine and heavy duty suspension, the Kubelwagen immediately came to be used by every unit, from the scorching desert of Africa to the frozen Russian Eastern Front. About 51,000 Kubelwagens, including several variations, were rolled out from the factory by the end of WW2.
Great model of the German 'jeep'. I have built both this model and the Schwimwagen version. Typical of Tamiya the engineering and fit of parts is very good and careful construction will be rewarded with an excellent model without any problem. The only complication is painting. Being an open top vehicle the interior will need to be painted in subsections before final assembly but then will be exposed while the exterior is painted. This will require masking or great care to avoid overspray or splatter. The camo could be hand painted but would best be applied by airbrush. Thus the result will depend on the painting skills of the modeller. It all depends on what you want. Inexpensive as models go so a good kit for beginners or youngsters to hone their skills on yet also an excellent starting point for the experienced builder to add scratch built detail or to be the centre piece in a small diorama.
