USS TANG was an American Balao-class submarine of World War II.
The ship's armament included 24 torpedoes, an anti-aircraft gun and two machine guns. The maximum immersion tested is 180 meters. She was launched on August 17, 1943.
On October 24, 1944, she was sunk during her fifth patrol. The unit's sole commander was Richard O'Kane, who, along with eight sailors, survived the destruction of the ship and remained in Japanese captivity until the end of the war. Statistics indicate that USS TANG was the most successful submarine in the Pacific. It sank between 24 and 31 enemy ships.
