Passchendaele 1917 is the story of one of the most pitiless and iconic battles of the First World War, known today as Third Ypres. Fought over three tortuous months in 1917, the fighting raged through some of the worst physical conditions of the entire war, across battlefields collapsing into endless mud and blood. Eventually more than 500,000 casualties bought front-line changes measured only in hundreds of yards.

Detailed profiles of the opposing sides and their leaders, including commander biographies and insight into the experience and kit of soldiers on both sides. Numerous first-hand accounts reveal the full extent of the horrors and drama of the Ypres battlefield. Contemporary photographs provide windows into life on the front line. Order of battle reveal the composition of the two opposing armies in detail. Numerous fact boxes reveal some of the astonishing details of this epic battle.

as an iron maiden fan and history lover was drawn to this book not just for family connections but wanting to read new stuff about this hard fought battle that inspired maiden's song. and i was not disappointed . Chris Macnab tells the story in a no nonsense way with facts laid out in a way that encourages you to research further which i like .
