Description

By David Doyle

Paperback

Conceived as part of a Top Secret project to disrupt Nazi Germany's atomic bomb program, the hastily developed Studebaker Weasel went on to one of, if not the most successful of the wartime all terrain vehicles.

Designed with light weight to facilitate both air dropping and efficient, high speed operation in the snow, the vehicles were soon found to have excellent performance in the mud. Always amphibious, the later models, the M29C, were equipped with flotation tanks on each end and dual rudders in the rear for even more efficient operation in the water.

Weasels were used on numerous fronts during WWII, were once again deployed in Korea, by the French in Vietnam, and numerous outposts during the Cold War.

Weasel words?

When I was looking for more information about my M29C’s in 1/76 scale, I found this book via a Google search.

Within the covers is pretty much every detail of the Weasel, M29C variant, together with their predecessors, you might hope for. A modellers dream.

The only issue I have with the book is that the campaign histories at the end of the book is very limited and therefore there are correspondingly limited images of ‘in-theatre’ vehicles. More images can be found on-line, of course, but it would have been so much better to have had more pages and more images resulting.

Overall, a great little book dedicated to this fabulous all purpose vehicle which has done such sterling service.

And the Tank Museum were selling it off cheaply!

No weasel words from me.
