MOVING THE GUNS

First published in 1990, Moving the Guns was the first book to document the mechanisation of the Royal Artillery.

With more than 160 photographs and manufacturers’ scale drawings, it traces developments in the movement of artillery from early Victorian experiments, through to World War One and into the rapid mechanisation that followed

Authors David Fletcher and Philip Ventham have drawn on research material from the Royal Artillery Institution (originally at Woolwich), the Library of The Tank Museum and the UK National Archives to assemble a comprehensive history of this aspect of military transport.

Fascinating account of a much neglected subject.

The inventiveness and experimentation that is evidenced by this fascinating book deserves to be better known. A must read for anybody interested in military developments and in engineering.
