This is a gift to myself
This Gold membership is a gift to my good friend on his birthday. He is delighted. Bovington is like his second home.
Most impressed with the whole museum which was massively enjoyed by our 5 year old grandson. It was good to see the Afghan section and the part played by the LD.
It was very nice to meet the Director by chance. We did touch upon the Danish Leopard 1 tank on display. The inscription stated that particular model never saw active service. Factually correct. But I am sure it would be of interest to add a footnote that the Danish Squadron in Bosnia did see action twice in Sector North East of UNPROFOR in 1994/5 where there were two major tank on tank actions. The first at OP TANGO 2 and a second on the Northern border when the UN were restablishing occupation of designated but previously abandoned OP. On the first something like 54 rounds were fired; in the latter engagement 72 rounds of main armament were fired. Both operations were successful. I had some delight making the point to DRAC's conference that the gunner of one troop leader's tank, having been splashed by an HE round had remembered the sight picture, off the gratical pattern, and took the turret of a Serbian tank. that gunner was a pretty Danish girl. How do I know all this, I was the Chief of Ops and Int and authorised the action, the first time I had ordered tanks into action. It would be a pity if those incidents were brushed out of history!! Can provide more details if required.

Second year membership but first as Gold. Decided on upgrading to visit the events next year that are included. Discount in the shop no restaurant is useful as long as you use them. Hopefully this year the Conservation Centre will be open as that is still on my list of things to do.
As a new member I am glad I joined as it's a worth while museum that needs all our patronage
