Wings on My Sleeve

A non-stop action read about an action packed life. I was expecting a dog-eared second hand book too, not a brand new looking one...

Capt. Eric "Winkle" Brown is a true GOAT of aviation. He joined the Fleet Air Arm just before WW2, a period where aviation technology "took off." As a test pilot Brown was at the heart of this new frontier. He flew almost every WW2 plane from all countries, in his career ~2,500 aircraft, a record which will prob never be bettered. A great read of a truly legendary historical aviation pioneer.

A very interesting read about the flying career of an exceptional test pilot. His language skills opened up opportunities, which make his story all the more remarkable. The record number of different aircraft he flew is unlikely to be beaten. A recommended read.

Good read well put together, interesting man puts danger and the unusual in to every day life and just goes and dos it.

It is one of those typically understated memoirs from that generation. Fairly matter of fact and focuses on the sequence of events in his career. However, what a career and the book is still full of nuggets of information about all the aircraft he piloted, the near misses, time in action and descriptions of those he flew with. It is fascinating and at this price and absolutely steal.
It is also an interesting insight into the history of aviation and the development of aircraft from before World War 2 to well beyond it.
