"A Farewell To Arms"
By Ernest Hemingway.
In 1918, Ernest Hemingway went to war.
He volunteered for ambulance service in Italy, was wounded and twice decorated. Out of his experience came A Farewell to Arms. Hemingway's description of war is unforgettable.
He recreates the fear, the comradeship, the courage of his young American volunteer, and the men and women he meets in Italy, with total conviction. But A Farewell to Arms is not only a novel of war. In it Hemingway has also created a love story of immense drama and uncompromising passion.
Brilliant service and delivery. I read this many years ago in my 20's. Have just started to read again 40 years later and I already know it will be a completely different experience!
This is a great work and a must read for anyone with an interest in European military history. The book was banned in post WW1 Italy due to the uncensored description of conditions and events on the frontlines.
As I haven't re-read this book for such a longtime, I'm not really qualified to give a valid review just now. If possible I will update after the book is read again.
