Author Dale Oscroft’s late father, Sergeant John Oscroft, fought on Gueriat el Atach in April 1943 with 2nd Battalion The Sherwood Foresters. 

He told his son of the day he fired his PIAT at a Tiger tank; a grim day in which the Sherwood Rangers suffered 50% casualties assaulting a ridge in Tunisia.

Inspired by his memories of the battle, Dale spent over 5 years researching the true story of Tiger 131’s capture and his father’s part in it.

It soon became clear to Dale that there was a broader story to tell about one of the hardest fought battles in the North African Campaign, one which finally extinguished Hitler’s hopes of maintaining a foothold on the African continent.

This book gives fresh new insights into the capture of Tiger 131, putting it into context with the events on Gueriat el Atach. Dale describes the fighting, the units and the personalities involved, supported by first person testimony, situation maps, archive photographs, and detailed appendices.
