Description

Keystone 87
The 2nd (BR) Infantry Division Defends the North German Plain
The 2nd (BR) Infantry Division, with its headquarters in York was the largest British division during the final stage of the Cold War. It had a critical task, reinforcement of the British Army of the Rhine in the event of war. The division’s first regular units could be deployed to the European continent within 24 hours in the event of serious tension with a possible imminent attack. Territorial Army units would then follow. The division could be fully deployed to West Germany within ten days at the latest, to secure the BAOR’s corps rear area. This situation was trained for during Keystone 87.
This publication shows the British and German military vehicles participating in Keystone 87 in impressive exercise photographs.

Tankograd 9042 Keystone 87

Keystone 87 was a joint Anglo-German military exercise at the height of the Cold War to show how this part of NATO could react to and deploy to meet the Warsaw Pact nations if they ever chose to invade Western Europe.

The 64 page book gives a concise appraisal of the exercise and its intended training benefits. The British 2nd Infantry Division and associated AFV’s of the British Army of the Rhine and the West German Bundeswehr are the main forces taking part.

All pictures are clear with good definition and caption explanations showing what was happening at that point during the military exercise. Excellent coverage of the British Army at its best. A great addition to the library of military enthusiasts, ex British Army personnel and modellers.
