Hardback

A fascinating celebration of this iconic engine, described by some as the greatest express locomotive ever built.

Published in association with The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, the manual explains the construction, operation and maintenance of 60163 Tornado, the new steam locomotive that attracts huge crowds wherever it appears. Based on the LNER Peppercorn Class A1 design, of which 49 were originally built but eventually all scrapped, Tornado is a magnificent and fully operational replica that is totally faithful to the original Peppercorn A1s in all respects except for modernisation to suit today's safety requirements.

This manual about a unique steam locomotive will fascinate all railway enthusiasts as well as those who appreciate British engineering excellence.

feedback on order.

The parcel was handed to me by the postman on the due date, but both the cardboard and two of the three books had an area of denting, perhaps dropped or squashed in the post, or perhaps done deliberately as several other purchases for the raffles have been. They are useable but worth noting.
For the second time the raffles which I had been instructed to purchase items for in aid of the Royal British Legion linked to the Railway 200 celebrations turned out to be another stunt linked to my High Court case, and an attempt to get me locked up in order to stop the proceedings.
I recently had the opportunity to stand on the footplate of 'Tornado' at Giants of Steam at the Bluebell Railway.
Changing the subject, my dad was in REME in WW2, an original Desert Rat!

Tornado train

Could easily have been titled
‘How to build a new stream train from scratch’
Full illustrated coverage of each stage, of this inspirational project, in full Haynes tradition.
Only slight problem, is the size has been reduced, so although easier to fit on a small bookcase, it looks a bit malnourished next to all the other Haynes publications, or at least the many I have.
But hey ho… if that’s the only thing to niggle about, it must be good!
