Description
By Patrick Winnepenninckx
The Leopard 1 can be considered one of the most successful armoured vehicles built in the West. Nearly 5,000 Leopard 1 MBTs were produced from 1965 until 1984. It was purchased by ten countries as-new builds.
Eight countries acquired additional refurbished or converted tanks, bringing the total number of countries using the Leopard 1 series to twelve.
Even after 50 years of service, the Leopard 1 family remains in service today with five countries. However, the fate of those no longer serving is covered in detail here.
This book looks at the last days of those used by Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Norway.
