By Major A. D. Bolland M.B.E.
This is the administrative story of the 53rd (Welsh) Division during Operation Overlord.
The division formed part of the British Army of the Rhine, and had the object of recording the detailed story of the divisional administration during its advance from the Normandy beachhead to the shores of the Baltic.
Filled with facts and statistics of value to the historian and military student, this story is one of considerable interest. Despite being the account of a single division, it covers nearly every phase of military operations, a beachhead build-up following an assault landing, advance, opposed crossings, and attack. Here we find a wealth of detailed information, which aims to give some conception of the magnitude of administration faced by an army in the field.
