Insights in how science, technology and engineering made the Normandy invasion possible.

By Jonathan Falconer. Forward by Major General Stuart Watson CBE

The landing of Allied forces on the shores of Normandy on 6 June 1944 was the greatest amphibious invasion in history. Technology and innovation played crucial parts in the D-Day drama - from tank-carrying gliders, swimming tanks and the Mulberry harbours, to radio and radar aids that ensured landing craft arrived on the right beaches and combat aircraft overhead were controlled. D-Day Operations Manual describes the development, construction and use of a wide range of innovative machines, structures and systems, explaining their uses on D-Day and after, and revealing how they contributed to the success of 'Overlord.'

The definitive work.

I have been studying the D-Day landings since my schooldays - as many books & articles as I could find, a 10 day backpack walk along the landing beaches...This Hayes manual has provided new insight and many major & minor details to my researches. Brilliant! Thank you for completing my journey. DKW

D-Day Operations Manual

I have several books on every type of WWII vehicle from all countries. One sorely missed area is in landing craft and invasion ships. This fills the missing gap nicely.
