A war lost and won.

Vietnam was the longest war in American history. US ground troops and their Australian, New Zealand and Korean allies were committed there for eight long years. In all, the American commitment in Southeast Asia lasted 15 years. During that time over 46,000 US servicemen died in battle. The Australian and New Zealand troops who fought there lost 496 dead and 2,398 wounded. But these figures pale beside Vietnamese losses, which totalled over a million.

A Very Good Account of My War

I have only begun reading this interesting and well written book. I am a veracious reader of "all things Vietnam" mostly because I spent 12 months and 29 days as a US Marine tank commander and tank section leader in norther I Corps with the 3rd Tank Battalion.

I do have to say that the author goes into very deep detail on the history of the unfortunate people of Vietnam having to endure thousands of years of brutal aggression against them by inside and outside forces...up to and including American military forces who were charged with defending them from the communists from the north.
