Incorporating a host of revolutionary design features, Chieftains saw combat in the 1980s during the Iran-Iraq war; Kuwaiti Chieftains fought the Iraqi army during the invasion of 1990; and British Army specialist engineer Chieftains were used in 1991 during Desert Storm.
The Haynes Chieftain Tank Manual is published in association with The Tank Museum and written by an ex-Chieftain tank commander who was granted full access to The Tank Museums Chieftain collections.
Just love this book about the worlds first real MBT, this is among my favorite tanks and I learned a lot by reading this book, it was well written by skillful authors, they gave me a good knowledge level about the tank and also the use of it. Nothing was hidden, it was written very open minded, I'm referring to the fantastic but not always trustable engine. i can highly recommend this well made book and I will for sure read it again.
We’ll informed and thorough - also dotted with pleasingly dry wit. Anyone with an interest in the chequered history of British tanks should love this book, which sets out in full the development, deployment and short-comings of this marvellous AFV.
I agree with Nigel, the author does use a lot of military abbreviations. There is a glossary in the back which defines them but it would have been better for us civilians if the phrases were spelled out.
But it's enormously informative!
Excellent, although the author is prone to using abbreviations, so if you haven’t read earlier chapters, then things like “GUE” can leave you stumped.
Not so easy to dip into, unlike the other books in the series, but really informative
